Blount Excavating Inc. lends a helping hand to family

7 December 2009 No Comment

A Louisville family recently received an early Christmas present courtesy of a Blount County excavation company.

Brian Lee Whitaker, a fifth-grader at Mary Blount Elementary School, and his family moved about five months ago to their Louisville house near Ian’s Market. The family’s driveway had deep, gutty potholes that prevented Brenda Jones, who operates a bus for children with special needs, from picking up Whitaker at his home.

Jones contacted Blount Excavating Inc. President Steve Garner, who told the bus driver that he and his employees would check it out. They later reviewed the site and determined it wasn’t a difficult job, Garner said. Two workers graded the driveway, poured three loads of stone and trimmed back the trees within the next 24 hours, he said Blount Excavating employees were happy to help the boy and his family. Garner, however, deferred all the credit to Jones, who initiated and organized the project.
